Accident? Awarded £78,000.00
It was a sunny, spring Sunday and Richard (not his real name) had arranged to meet a couple of friends later that morning. He set off on his
motorbike in plenty of time. The route took him along some country lanes near his work, a journey he had done many times before.

There was a long straight stretch of road just before a gentle right hand bend. Richard was doing about 45mph. As he reached the bend the car
coming the other way turned sharply across Richard's path. He just had time to apply his brakes before he hit the trailer the car had been
towing. The impact knocked the trailer over and smashed the front of the bike. Richard went over the handlebars, bounced off the trailer and
landed further down the road. Richard woke up in hospital with a badly broken left arm and leg. He's convinced that buying high quality motorcycle
clothing saved him from a lot worse. After 3 operations and 3 weeks he was discharged home on crutches. It took a lot of hard work and a further
18 months before he could go back to work. Now, apart from a few scars and occasional aches and pains he is back to normal. The car driver
claimed that Richard was not in view when he started his turn and denied liability. If Richard lost his claim he would get nothing. It took 3
years, 4 expert reports and 3 meetings with our barrister before we could settle Richard's claim for £78,000.00. We had accepted Richard's claim
on a no win / no fee agreement. As he was out of work he could not afford to pay for the expensive reports and barrister's fees, so Glassbrooks
paid for them all for him.
Bad Back? Awarded £10,000.00
Mrs Jones (not her real name) was employed as a care assistant working with the elderly. She enjoyed her job but found it hard work at times.
On the night in question she needed to help a disabled lady from a chair into bed.

The disabled lady could not help very much and there was nobody else available to help. Unfortunately the lifting was too much for Mrs Jones's
back. She was off work for a few months and eventually took a different job. The employers had given Mrs Jones very little training in her job
and had not provided the proper equipment to help her. If they had, Mrs Jones probably wouldn't have been hurt. This firm accepted Mrs Jones's
claim on our no win / no fee agreement. Glassbrooks paid for the expensive reports and barrister's fees during the case. She received £10,000
compensation. Lifting injuries at work are common. While many people recover quickly, others have long term even permanent problems.
